Grievances

The CE Company is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles of Psychologists. The CE Company will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of the Mental Health Advisory Committee Chair in consultation with the members of the Mental Health Advisory Committee and The CE Company Program Administrator.

While The CE Company goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, there will be occasional issues which come to the attention of the convention staff which require intervention and/or action on the part of the convention staff or an officer of The CE Company. This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.

  1. When a participant, either orally or in written format, files a grievance and expects action on the complaint, the following actions will be taken. If the grievance concerns a speaker, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, the individual filing the grievance will be asked to put his/her comments in written format. The Mental Health Advisory Committee Chair will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring the confidentiality of the grieved individual.

  2. If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the event was offered, the Program Administrator will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the Program Administrator will:

    1. attempt to move the participant to another event or

    2. provide a credit for a subsequent year's event or

    3. provide a partial or full refund of the event fee.

Actions 2b and 2c will require a written note, documenting the grievance, for record keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by the grieved individual.

  3. If the grievance concerns The CE Company program, in a specific regard, the Mental Health Advisory Committee Chair will attempt to arbitrate.

The CE Company, Inc. seeks to ensure equitable treatment of all people. Any grievances should be sent to support@thececompany.com and will be reviewed within 5-10 business days. Grievances will receive corrective action to the best of our ability in order to prevent further issues.

Conflicts of Interest

As an APA-approved sponsor of continuing education, The CE Company is committed to the identification and resolution of potential conflicts of interest in the planning, promotion, delivery, and evaluation of continuing education. Consistent with concepts outlined in the APA Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, potential conflicts of interest occur when an individual assumes a professional role in the planning, promotion, delivery, or evaluation of continuing education where personal, professional, legal, financial, or other interests could reasonably be expected to impair his or her objectivity, competence, or effectiveness.

Potential Conflicts of Interest in the Planning of Continuing Education

Our Mental Health Advisory Committee Chair is responsible to identify, declare, and resolve any potential conflict of interest the The CE Company may have in offering any specific program of continuing education. In the event of a potential conflict of interest, Our Mental Health Advisory Committee Chair will assume responsibility to resolve the potential conflict by:

  • Recusal or reassignment: If a conflict of interest is identified for a specific individual involved in the planning or delivery of the continuing education program, our Mental Health Advisory Committee Chair will consider removing them from the affected decision-making process or task or exploring the possibility of replacing individuals with conflicts of interest with independent experts or contributors who can provide unbiased perspectives or expertise.

  • Revision of plans: If the conflict of interest significantly affects the content or objectives of the continuing education program, our Mental Health Advisory Committee Chair will consider revising the plans to align with unbiased and objective learning outcomes.

  • Prevention, Cancellation or Suspension of the program: In cases where the conflict of interest cannot be effectively managed, and its presence undermines the integrity or objectivity of the continuing education program, it may be necessary to prevent, cancel or suspend the program. This decision will be made after careful consideration and consultation with relevant stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability.

The CE Company requires that professionals participating in the planning of continuing education identify any potential conflict of interest they may have in the review, selection, development, delivery, or evaluation of that program and disclose the conflict or recuse themselves from any decision-making concerning that program. In the event of a potential conflict of interest, our Mental Health Advisory Committee Chair will ensure that the individual recuses him or herself from the planning process.

Potential Conflicts of Interest in the Promotion of Continuing Education

When preparing promotional material for continuing education, The CE Company includes information concerning any financial support, including in-kind support, provided by another party. The CE Company also informs potential participants of any potential conflicts of interest regarding an instructor. If there is no financial support or any potential conflict of interest or commercial support, The CE Company will ensure that is clearly stated in the promotional material. If information about financial support or any potential conflict of interest is not included in the promotional material prepared for continuing education, The CE Company will clearly indicate how a potential participant can secure that information.

Potential Conflicts of Interest in the Delivery of Continuing Education

The CE Company requires that there is a process to clearly describe any financial support for a continuing education program at the time the continuing education program begins. Any other relationship that could be reasonably construed as a conflict of interest will also be disclosed. If there is no financial support or potential conflict of interest, The CE Company will ensure there is a process (e.g., a designated individual or a slide at the start of the presentation, documentation in materials) to clearly state any potential conflicts at the time the continuing education program begins.
